What is BNI?
BNI is a worldwide networking organization designed to increase business “by referral only”. More information can be found at BNI Worldwide.

Where does the Alto BNI chapter meet?
We meet at the Bay Cafe at the Palo Alto municipal golf course. The address is 1875 Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto.

What should I bring to the meeting?
You should bring about 45 business cards to the meeting, which will be passed out to the members. Any extras can be returned to you. Unless you are a substitute, you should also bring $15 (cash or check) to cover the cost of breakfast.

Do I need to prepare anything for the meeting?
If you are a substitute, you should be provided with a 25-second infomercial for the member you are representing. If the member does not provide this for you, please try to contact him/her before the meeting. If you are a visitor, you should prepare a 25-second infomercial designed to succinctly give the group a sense of what you do.

Can anyone join a chapter?
There are a few requirements for joining, chief among them that your profession does not conflict with that of a current chapter member. Provided your area of expertise is not in direct competition with that of another member, we check two references for every member who applies to the chapter.

If there can’t be any overlap between business categories, how do I know if my category is already filled at Alto BNI?
The members’ official categories can be found on the main members page. If you are unsure whether your category is too close to a category already filled by a current member, please contact that member. Bear in mind that, if there is no conflict, two professionals working in similar areas are often the best sources of referrals.
